Great to see 5 new players joining the ranks along with the return of Harry Thomson too!

Difficult to pick the teams evenly tonight, with no knowledge of the new players ability... but with the teams warmed up and captains talks done, off we went!

It didn’t take long for team red to cross the whitewash. A great driving set, with some heads-up passing skills the Fijians would be proud of, and Harry T went over to put his mark on the game.

A well executed tap off move caught the black team off guard as we saw Hugh Spencer dot down to quickly equal things up. 1-1

Simons saw a napping defence and turned on the afterburners to put black back in the lead.

Harry picked up from half, a hard run turning his defenders hips, a beautifully timed cut from Tobi Oputa and fast hands to Luke Lawrence who put team red ahead 4-1 as the whistle went for the first break.

Sanitised and back rating to go, team red didn’t wait to open in their scoring, as Harry scooped through, throwing a long ball to winger Simons as they furthered their lead, 5-1.

The Redfern’s linked up in the middle, with a well executed ML play, as Beth dived for the line, just out of reach from Ashtons defence, keeping them in the game.

Blacks defence was caught napping again, as newcomer Daniel Walton got his first try of the night. 6-2 black.

Chargers stalwart, Bruce stepped up to inject his experience into the mix, scooping through and some great hands out towards the wing, try time! 6-3.

Simons times his sweeper run to perfection, and dived and slid under the defensive hand of Stefan - it looked very close, but an honest β€˜missed’ call from Redfern saw another try on red scoreboard tally. 7-3

Flick passes, miss passes, overhead and round the back passes saw a team red put another on the board, with a debatable forward pass to finish, but too cool not to be awarded! 8-3 as the whistle went for the final break.

Another well executed tap off move from team black, as Bruce increased his tally. 8-4

Great driving and organisation from Harry that saw Steppy McSteppyson Luke Lawrence dance round the defence as he finished off some great rucking. 9-4

Bruce and Hugh linking up in the middle, with great patience, as they picked their time to strike. Bruce picked up, scooped and went long to Beth who still had a lot to do to finish it, but finish it she did. 9-5

Team red drove well, with some expansive running and flowing passes as another try was added on the wing.

The β€˜final play’ call had been called, as team red looked to Simons and his speed/agility combo, as he burst through a tired black defence to finish the game 11-5

Some great Touch played, the newcomers picked up the game extremely well and an outstanding performance from Harry T upon his return to the Chargers clan, with his line attack patience, driving organisation and well timed scooping game - gaining the well deserved β€˜man of the match’ title.

See you all next week for another Sign-Up/Turn-Up/Play session!
